FAQs

  • The Newburyport boat holds up to 45 passengers, plus the captain and crew.

The Haverhill boat holds 30, plus captain and crew.

  • Both the Yankee Clipper (Newburyport) and the Rachel Carson (Haverhill) are available for charter. The rates below apply to the time the boat spends away from its dock. So if you wanted to be picked up at a different location and dropped back off there, the charter rate would apply from the boat’s departure from its dock until it returns there. The hourly rate can be prorated for any length of time you desire.

    Newburyport, Yankee Clipper:

    • Monday through Thursday $500 per hour

    • Friday through Sunday $595 per hour

    • Capacity 45

    • Bathroom: yes

    Haverhill, Rachel Carson:

    • Monday through Thursday $450 per hour

    • Friday through Sunday $495 per hour

    • Capacity 30

    • Bathroom: yes

  • There is a roof overhead for 90% of the seats, and passing showers or light rain is not a problem. In cases of heavy or unsafe weather conditions, the captain makes the final determination as to whether the boat leaves the dock or not. If we cancel due to weather or safety conditions, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel and the boat is prepared to go, you will receive a full credit for another time.

  • We have eight restaurant style booths, each of which holds up to six people. There is a central aisle that runs the length of all the seating, and some open space forward of the tables.

  • Yes, both boats have a bathroom! However, please note the bathrooms do not accommodate wheel chairs.

  • As we hold a liquor license, you may not bring your own alcohol; however, you can bring anything else, i.e., food, soft drinks, etc. We do sell soft drinks and water but you are welcome to bring your own. Beer, wine and other specialty alcoholic drink prices may vary. On our public trips, small bags of snacks such as chips, pretzels, etc, are available. For private charters or public trips, you are always welcome to bring any food items you like.

  • Yes, either open bar or cash bar is fine. You can pay the bar tab at the end of the trip if you want an open bar.

  • The Newburyport Harbor departures: We will take your group wherever you would like to go, up to 3 miles offshore. A typical charter of 2.5 hours gives us enough time to go out to the ocean, up and down the coast of Plum Island and Salisbury Beach, and then up the Merrimack River to Maudslay State Park. If the tide is right, we can also take you into the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge behind Plum Island; however, that is a “high tide only” destination.

The Haverhill Municipal Dock departures: Downriver, towards or beyond the Rocks Village Bridge, depending on the duration of the tour.

  • In Newburyport, at very low tide the ramp leading from the boardwalk down to the dock can be quite steep, so if anyone in your party uses a walker or wheelchair, or is otherwise challenged by steep ramps, its best to plan a trip closer to high tide if possible. In Haverhill, there are six steps that lead down to a ramp that is relatively easy to navigate, as well as an ADA compliant, long fixed ramp that can be used at any tide level.

  • No, but we can refer you to some excellent local caterers for your event, or you are welcome to cater it yourself or use any catering company.

  • Email your top three dates and time slots to info@harbortours.com so we can make sure to pencil you in. Email is our preferred method of correspondence to avoid miscommunication. We will do our best to accommodate your first choice. To secure your spot, a minimum 50% deposit is required using MC/Visa or via check made out to Yankee Clipper Tours, 539 Kearsarge Way, Portsmouth, NH 03801. The balance is due no later than ten days prior to the charter date.

  • Yes, we can accommodate up to 3 wheelchairs, but the rest room is not wheelchair accessible.

  • We love dogs. Bring them along!
